Green Summit NJ is the volunteer green team working with the city and its residents to promote a more sustainable Summit. GS works to promote lifestyle changes that can make an impact on our individual footprints: composting, gardening, water conservation, recycling, reusing and ultimately reducing. We want to work with our neighbors and have partnered with the Film Society of Summit to screen ‘Inconvenient Sequel’ and ‘Bag It’ and with Reeves-Reed for the sustainable fashion show. We are promoting Green Faith Circle’s stretch plastic drive Bags to Benches to encourage recycling and awareness of how much plastic we collect daily.
Our hope is to green Summit household by household, as well as, through the schools and the town. Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram or website for tips, news and events.
We would like to thank the Film Society of Summit for hosting the ‘Bag It’ screening on Oct. 12 and for the enthusiasm of those who attended. Some of our recommendations post-screening:
Carry reusable totes for shopping (Green Summit has these for sale)
Carry a reusable water bottle or coffee thermos
Decline plastic bags and straws whenever possible
Think about what you are purchasing: do you need it? How is it packaged?
We vote with our purchases, using less plastic is better for our environment and our health. Our next step after the film is supporting the statewide single use plastics ban legislation with a postcard writing party - stay tuned!
